Video Dry Dock Restoration

Four short videos detailing the construction phases of the museum dry dock. This was a significant undertaking, and the dry dock at the Marine Museum of the Great Lakes remains the only federally built dry dock on the great lakes.

February, 2010

Two excavators at the bottom of the Marine Museum dry dock, one with a gigantic jackhammer attachment breaking the old concrete walls, while the other clears the rubble with shovel attachment.

The gigantic drilling machines you see are drilling down to bedrock to install anchors for the concrete walls being poured.

The coffer dam installation was accomplished on February, 2010 as part of the dry dock reconstruction and restoration project due to finish late spring. Audio is an interview by Maurice Smith, Curator Emeritus, with Michael Dent, Structural Engineer and designer of the cofferdam.
