2020 Inductions
Prior to the actual inductions, CSHOF Management Committee member John Kerr recognized the three Hall of Fame members – George Cuthbertson, Don Green, and Bruce Kirby - who had passed away since their inductions.
Even though the majority of the Inductees won their Olympic Medals and World Championships while sailing with others, each received a separate induction to recognize their individual contribution to the sport of sailing in Canada.

David Miller
Bronze Medal winner with Paul Cote and John Ekels in the Soling class at the 1972 Munich Olympic Games. Winner of the Geary 18 Internationals and the Sears Cup North American Junior Championship in 1960. Competed in the 1964 Olympics in Stars, and the 1968 Olympics in Dragons. Won the Albacore North American Championship in 1973, and the Dragon North American Championship in 1984. Numerous offshore involvement including two Admirals’ Cup series, Sardinia Cup, SORCs, Trans Pacs, etc. Coach for Canada I America’s Cup campaign in 1983. Member of the Collegiate Sailing Hall of Fame, and the British Columbia Sports Hall of Fame.

Paul Coté
Paul won a Bronze Medal in the 1972 Munich Olympics in the Soling class sailing with David Miller and John Ekels. He grew up sailing at RVYC and skippered his own 35’ boat in offshore races with great success, including a 1st in Class, 2nd overall and 3rd boat to finish in a Victoria to Maui Race. After the Olympics he commissioned the building of a new 41 footer that he campaigned extensively on the West Coast, and in 1994 he commissioned a rebuild of a 68’ ULDB to compete with success in the 1998 Jimmy Cornell Expo Round the World Race.

John Ekels
John won a Bronze Medal in the 1972 Munich Olympics in the Soling class. To do so, he gave up his own singlehanded Olympic aspirations in the Finn to join Dave Miller in his bid for the Olympics in the Soling. Joined by Paul Cote they won the Canadian selection trials and the right to represent Canada in the 1972 Olympic Games, where they won the Bronze Medal. With Dave Miller and Paul Coté, John was also inducted into BC Sports Hall of Fame.

Glen Dexter
As skipper, Glen won the Soling Class World Championships with Andreas Josenhans and Sandy MacMillan in 1977 and 1980, and finished 2nd in 1978. He competed for Canada in the 1976 Montreal Olympics, again with Josenhans and MacMillan. At the time they were the youngest crew and the first Nova Scotia sailors to compete in the Olympics. Glen has been inducted into the Nova Scotia Sports Hall of Fame and the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame.

Andreas Josenhans
Sailing with Glen Dexter and Sandy MacMillan, Andreas won the Soling Class World Championships in 1977 and 1980, and finished 2nd in 1978. Sailing with Buddy Melges, Andreas won two Star Class World Championships in 1978 and 1979. He was part of the America3 crew that won the America’s Cup in 1992, and part of the Defiant crew that won Canada’s Cup in 2001. Andreas is a member of the Nova Scotia Sports Hall of Fame and the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame.

Sandy MacMillan
Sailing with fellow Nova Scotians Glen Dexter and Andreas Josenhans, Sandy won the Soling Class World Championships in 1977 and 1980, and finished 2nd in 1978. He competed for Canada in the 1976 Montreal Olympics, again with Dexter and Josenhans. Sandy coached the Soling class in the 1988 Seoul Olympics and 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Along with Glen Dexter and Andreas Josenhans , Sandy was inducted into the Nova Scotia Sports Hall of Fame and the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame in 1980.

Karen Morch
Karen won an Olympic Gold Medal in the Windsurfer Demonstration Class in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games. In 1983 she won the North American Boardsailing Championships, and later that year the World Boardsailing Championships in Kingston, winning both the course racing and the pentathlon. Karen was a member of the Canadian Women’s National Team in both 420s and boardsailing from 1979 to 1985.

Terry McLaughlin
Terry won a Silver Medal in the Flying Dutchman Class in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, after winning the FD World Championships in 1980, both with Evert Bastet. He was an All-American Intercollegiate Sailor in 1977 and 1979 (Queen’s University), Skipper of Canada I in the 1983 Louis Vuitton America’s Cup Challenger Trials, Canada’s Cup winner in 2001, 2003 and 2021, NYYC Invitational Cup winner in 2011 and 2013, and J24 Silver Medalist in the 2015 Pan Am Games. He was twice awarded Sail Canada’s Rolex Sailor of the Year and was a member of the Canadian National Sailing Team from 1977 to 1992.

Evert Bastet
Championship and earned a Silver Medal in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, both with Terry McLaughlin. He has been a team member in seven Olympic Games, having competed in three of them with Peter Byrne '72, Hans Fogh '76 and Terry McLaughlin '84. In 1973, he won the Flying Dutchman World Championship with Han Fogh and the Laser US National Championship. He was a genoa and spinnaker trimmer in the 1983 Canada I America’s Cup Challenge and was a Team Leader for the 2003 Pan Am Games, 2004 Athens Olympics, 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2004 ISAF Youth Worlds.

Terry Neilson
In 1982 Terry won the Laser Class World Championships, and in 1984 he won a Bronze Medal in the Finn class in the Los Angeles Olympics. In 1979 he won both the European Laser Championship and a Gold Medal at the Pan Am Games in Lasers. In 1987 he skippered the Twelve Metre Canada II in the Louis Vuitton elimination series for the America’s Cup.

Hans Fogh
Hans won an Olympic Bronze medal in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics in the Soling Class, and a Soling World Championship in 2006. Sailing for his native Denmark in 1960, Hans won an Olympic Silver Medal in the Flying Dutchman class, the first of his six Olympic appearances. He competed in the 1976 Olympics for Canada in the Flying Dutchman. In the Soling class he won three European Championships and nine North American Championships. He was inspirational in the development of the rig for the Laser and Laser Radial. He twice won the Canada’s Cup, and has been inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame, Canadian Olympic Sports Hall of Fame, among others.

John Kerr
John won a Bronze Medal for Canada in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics sailing with Hans Fogh and Steve Calder in the Soling Class. John’s entire international sailing career was with Hans Fogh when he started crewing in Soling’s in 1973. Together they won numerous Canadian Championships, followed by a North American Championship in 1977, and highlighted by three European Championships in 1978, 1982 and 1983, three Coupe du Monde titles in the same years and they continued to sail together in Etchells and Solings until 2014. John later sat on the Boards of the Canadian Yachting Association and Sail Canada and represented sailing on the Canadian Olympic Committee.

Steve Calder
Steve won a Bronze Medal for Canada in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics sailing with Hans Fogh and John Kerr in the Soling Class. Sailing with Hans, Steve also won the European Soling Championships in 1983, and the North American Soling Championships in 1984, ‘85, and ’86. Sailing for Denmark, Steve was also part of crew that won the 1984 Soling World Championship.

Lynn Watters
Lynn represented Canada in the 1960 and 1964 Olympics, and won a Gold Medal in the 1963 Pan Am Games, crewing in the Dragon Class. However, his greatest contribution to sailing was in the administration of the sport. He was chair of the NAYRU Appeals Committee in 1973/74, member of the IYRU Rules Committee from 1971-78, chair of the ISAF Rules Committee 1979-1990, created the International Judging System and became an International Judge, serving for the 1983 America’s Cup. He was one of the founders of CORK, and a past Commodore of RStLYC. He was awarded the ISAF Gold Medal for distinguished service.
